Transitioning from Beta: NYSentencing 2024 Version

As the beta phase of NYSentencing 2024 concludes, I want to extend my thanks to all who participated and shared valuable feedback. Since its launch in 2001 as GungaWeb, NYSentencing has evolved significantly over the years to meet the changing needs of its users. Your early feedback highlighting a need for a more modern and accessible platform prompted a comprehensive overhaul of NYSentencing in 2023. This update incorporates modern practices in coding and responsive design, especially enhancing mobile usability—a feature many users requested. The 2024 version introduces a streamlined interface starting with a new title bar and an expandable “Table of Contents.” At present, it includes only the “Penal Law” chapter, which expands to show specific titles, articles, and sections. Each offense page provides detailed information, including summaries of elements, bail conditions, plea limitations, and sentencing alternatives. I am diligently working to ensure that all information from the previous versions is retained and presented in this improved format.

I understand that many of you handling DWI cases have come to rely on the program’s coverage of DWI and AUO offenses. I am prioritizing the re-integration of these offenses into the new system, with enhanced detail and navigability. While these updates are being implemented, the 2023 version remains accurate and usable for current DWI cases.

Feedback from the recent user survey reveals that while 27% of users prefer the old format, a significant majority—73%—appreciate the new design or are adjusting well to it. Listening to this response, my plan for the coming year includes continuous enhancements to the 2024 interface, while also exploring the reintroduction of a modernized version of the old format by 2025.

Thank you for your ongoing support and feedback, so valuable to the product’s continuous improvement. I am committed to ensuring that NYSentencing remains a helpful, authoritative resource for legal professionals. Stay tuned for further updates, and please continue to share your insights and experiences with the new system.
