NYSentencing allows you to work with Charges and Elements in two ways.
First, by selecting an offense by section, you may analyze an individual crime in depth.
NYSentencing presents the text of the Penal Law, enhanced with links to definitions of key terms, tables of essential elements, links to jury instructions, analysis of lesser and greater offenses, notes and commentary, alerts to plea bargaining restrictions, and construction of detailed sentencing reports.
Alternatively, for selected articles you may use the Offense Builder module to learn how elements of offenses combine to form different crimes in various degrees.
The Offense Builder module shows all the ways in which selected elements combine to form completed offenses, showing the effect of aggravating factors on a case fact pattern. See an example :
